Q11. What are the graduation requirements for swimming and campus road running?
A11. Swimming
Students must complete 25 meters using any of the following strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, or butterfly.
Touching the pool bottom, lane ropes, pool walls, or using floating aids is not allowed. Students must also perform at least one breath exchange during the swim. Successfully completing this requirement is considered a passing standard.
For first-year and second-year students, swimming ability tests are conducted by course instructors during PE classes and are included in the physical education grade.
For third-year students (first semester), a unified swimming proficiency test is conducted by the Sports Office during the first week of the semester. Students who do not pass must attend swimming remedial classes.
A11. Campus Road Running
All students are required to participate in campus road running events organized by the university during their study period (except those with approved official leave, injury, or illness). For first-year and second-year students, road running performance is included in the physical education grade.
For graduating students (fourth-year students), the requirement is to complete the campus road run within 37 minutes in the academic year to pass the graduation standard.
Students who do not meet the requirement may have the standard adjusted based on Body Mass Index (BMI):
Male students: BMI > 28
Female students: BMI > 27
For every 0.1 increase in BMI, 5 seconds are added to the time limit. (Students must complete a weigh-in at the Sports Office on the test day or within one day before or after.) Students who still do not pass after adjustment must attend a make-up test.
Q12. How do I apply for a road running or swimming test if I am unable to do so due to injury, illness, or other reasons?
A12.Students who are unable to participate in vigorous physical activities due to injury, illness, or other reasons may apply for exemption by completing the “Application Form for Exemption from Physical Fitness Graduation Requirement Assessment” (Form No.: A0F0070106). Applicants must attach a medical certificate issued by a teaching hospital, a public hospital under the Department of Health, or a municipal hospital. Upon approval by the Physical Education Curriculum Committee, students may be exempted from the physical fitness test, make-up test, and swimming remedial classes.
Applications may only be submitted during the second semester of the senior year (fourth year). The medical certificate must be issued after the start of the second semester.
